Dark Souls’ Hidden Area, the Other Burg, Now Accessible Through Mods

Dark Souls, known for its interconnected world, has a hidden area called the Other Burg that players have long been curious about. Thanks to a modder and a new Blender plugin, this inaccessible area can now be explored for the first time.

The Other Burg, visible from Firelink Shrine, has intrigued players since the game’s release in 2011. It is a detailed town reminiscent of Undead Burg but completely inaccessible. However, with the help of the Soulstruct Blender plugin, modder FromSoftserve has made it possible to traverse this mysterious location.

The Soulstruct Blender plugin, launched on Nov. 1, is a game-changer for Dark Souls modding. It allows the import and export of map pieces, characters, and collision data, opening up new possibilities for expanding the game’s world.

In a video demonstration, FromSoftserve showcases a new route to the Other Burg from the Firelink graveyard. By duplicating and layering the graveyard terrain using the Soulstruct Blender plugin, a new path leading to the Other Burg is created. Collision data is added to ensure a seamless experience. Although a work in progress, this expansion of the Dark Souls map is truly impressive.

Descending into the Other Burg, FromSoftserve explores its streets and alleys. The level is fully modeled with buildings, streets, doorways, wells, and foliage. It is reminiscent of a fully explorable Dark Souls level, raising questions about its original purpose and why it was left inaccessible.

Dark Souls is known for its cut content, and the existence of the Other Burg adds to the intrigue. With the Soulstruct Blender plugin, a new era of Dark Souls modding is on the horizon. FromSoftserve’s additions to the game serve as a proof of concept, demonstrating the potential for entirely new levels and restored cut content.

While we may never know FromSoftware’s original intentions, the Soulstruct Blender plugin has opened up exciting possibilities for Dark Souls mods. Players can look forward to the prospect of exploring new areas and uncovering hidden secrets in this beloved game.
