Ever since League of Legends’ Arena mode left the live servers this past summer, players have eagerly awaited its return. The wait is finally over as the game mode is set to make a comeback with Patch 13.23 on Tuesday, Nov. 21. In a recent PBE data mine, Riot Games revealed some significant changes and additions, including new champion cameos, items, and Augments.
According to the data mine, four new champion cameos are possibly joining the Arena mode: Thresh, Sylas, Zilean, and Draven. Thresh’s cameo introduces a mechanic called the Midnight Express, where he circles the map indefinitely and periodically tosses his lantern to a nearby champion. This grants them a small shield and the ability to use the lantern to travel to Thresh’s position. Sylas allows players to access one additional ultimate ability, similar to the Ultimate Spellbook. Zilean continuously casts Timewarp on all players throughout the match, providing increased attack speed, movement speed, ability haste, tenacity, and health regeneration. Draven’s event is a straightforward four-vs-four deathmatch, where he throws you and your partner alongside another team to fight against two other teams in the game.
The data mine also revealed some powerful new Augments, including the Prismatic Augments. One of these, called Center of the Universe, grants the player Aurelion Sol’s old passive ability with orbiting stars. Another amusing Augment is Laser Eyes, which gives the player a laser that shoots out in the direction the champion is facing, dealing continuous magic damage per second.
While these additions are still subject to change and may not all make it into the live version, the return of Arena mode promises to be a hit among players once again. With its popularity and exciting new features, it is expected to become one of the most-played modes in League of Legends later this month.
