Throughout the history of Call of Duty, cheaters have been a constant problem for both players and game developers. In an effort to tackle this issue, Sledgehammer Games has introduced AI “machine learning” technology in Modern Warfare 3 to detect and deal with potential cheaters.
The newly implemented RICOCHET anti-cheat system will analyze both client and server data to identify abnormal gameplay behavior. Players who are suspected of cheating will receive account challenges, and all guilty accounts will be compiled for further action by the development team.
This AI-powered system allows for quick identification of cheating cases, while maintaining accuracy by having human verification. It’s important to note that bans will not be issued automatically by the AI, as account lockouts will only be done by human employees.
AI will also be utilized in MW3’s Replay Investigation Tool, which helps identify suspicious behavior such as wall hacks or raging. The tool can review up to one thousand clips per day, enabling the AI to learn and detect these situations more efficiently.
The developers are excited about the integration of machine learning in the Replay Investigation Tool and its potential to evolve over time. One of the main focuses of this advancement is to combat unfair ranking manipulation in Ranked Play modes across their titles.
While hacking may never be completely eradicated from Call of Duty, the use of AI systems shows promise in curbing this rampant problem. Players can now enjoy their games without the constant worry of encountering cheaters who instantly lock onto their heads throughout the entire match.
