Destiny 2’s Season of the Witch has had its fair share of bugs, but one bug in particular is making a comeback in a big way. The bug that allowed players to use Sparrows in PvP matches will now be a permanent feature starting in season 23.
In the latest This Week in Destiny blog post on November 9th, Bungie announced several updates for the Crucible in Season of the Wish, which launches on November 28th. One of the major changes is a rework of the available nodes in the Crucible menu. Control, a popular game mode, will now be part of a rotational six-vs-six playlist that occasionally includes a new variant called Sparrow Control.
Sparrow Control is a modified version of Control that takes place on larger maps in Destiny 2’s PvP catalog. This allows players to use Sparrows, which are vehicles, to navigate the map and change the flow of the game. Bungie has also added a new medal for Sparrow Control, which is likely based on the vehicular mayhem that occurred during the bug.
But Sparrow Control is not the only variant of Control that will be featured in the playlist. Checkmate Control, a highly successful variant tested in season 22, will be the primary mode available initially. Checkmate Control focuses more on gunplay and reduces the power and cooldown speed of abilities. This change aims to emphasize weapon skill as a determining factor in PvP matches, rather than relying heavily on abilities.
Bungie acknowledges that these updates may not be perfect, but they are committed to iterating and improving the Crucible experience based on player feedback and data. The Crucible Strike team is actively gathering feedback from forums, social media, surveys, and analytics to inform their decision-making process. Some changes, like tuning Checkmate, will be implemented quickly, while others, like analyzing spawning data, will take more time.
These updates are just the beginning, as Bungie has larger changes planned for Trials of Osiris and beyond. The goal is to satisfy dedicated PvP players and create a more balanced and enjoyable Crucible experience.
Season 23 of Destiny 2 will bring significant changes to the Crucible when it launches on November 28th. Players can expect a new playlist with rotating Control variants, including Sparrow Control, and a greater emphasis on gunplay and skill. Bungie is committed to listening to player feedback and making improvements to ensure a satisfying PvP experience.
