Spawning Issues Lead to Temporary Removal of Maps in Modern Warfare 3

Tim Price

Sledgehammer Games has temporarily removed the Quarry, Rundown, and Scrapyard maps from the Hardpoint playlist in Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare 3. This decision comes after players experienced problematic spawns on these maps, causing chaos and frustration. The developers are currently investigating the issue and have not provided a timeframe for when the maps will be reinstated.

The spawning problem has persisted since the game’s launch, despite attempts to address it in a day one patch. The addition of spawn anchors was intended to control where spawns occur, but it proved ineffective. As a result, the maps were disabled to allow for further investigation.

In Hardpoint mode, spawning is crucial for teams to quickly secure and defend specific areas on the map. If players consistently spawn too far away, too close, or in close proximity to enemies, it renders the mode unplayable.

However, the spawning issue is just one of several problems that Sledgehammer Games is working to resolve. Other issues include the minimap failing to indicate if an enemy is above or below a player, players adjusting their field of view beyond intended limits, and players exploiting a glitch to plant the bomb at an unauthorized location in the Terminal map’s Bombsite A during Search and Destroy.

These issues, combined with criticism of the campaign, have led some players to believe that the game was rushed. A report from Jason Schreier at Bloomberg revealed that Modern Warfare 3 was developed in “half the time” compared to its predecessors. In response, Sledgehammer Games released a statement emphasizing their dedication and extensive work on the game.

Currently, the priority for the developers is to restore the removed maps to the Hardpoint rotation. However, the resolution of these issues may take some time. While some players have managed to access multiplayer early using the “New Zealand trick,” the official launch of Modern Warfare 3 is just a few hours away.
