According to esports journalist Brieuc Seeger, 100 Thieves is set to sign Golden Guardians star Kim “River” Dong-woo as their starting jungler for the upcoming 2024 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) season. River, who has been steadily improving since joining the LCS in 2021, will be joining his third team in the region.
During the 2023 LCS Summer Split, River showcased his skills and emerged as one of the top-performing players. He secured the second-highest number of kills and the most assists among all junglers in the league, making a significant impact on the Golden Guardians’ offense. River excelled at playing facilitator and engage champions like Vi, Sejuani, Jarvan IV, and Maokai, while also demonstrating his proficiency on carry champions such as Viego and Kindred.
If this transfer goes through, River will replace 100 Thieves’ current jungler, Can “Closer” Çelik, who was previously hailed as one of the best junglers in the LCS after helping the team win the 2021 LCS Championship. However, Closer’s performance has declined since then, and he struggled throughout the 2023 season. He had the second-lowest KDA among junglers and the lowest kill participation percentage in the LCS. Additionally, his early-game stats were subpar, reflecting the team’s overall lackluster performances.
With multiple players already leaving the team in free agency, 100 Thieves is in need of a roster overhaul for the upcoming year. The acquisition of River signifies the organization’s commitment to strengthening their jungle position and revitalizing their competitive prospects for the 2024 LCS season.
