Overwatch 2 players are puzzled by the classification of inappropriate battle tags, as a seemingly harmless tag was forcefully changed while horrendous ones were left untouched.
On November 14, a player shared their experience with Game Masters (GMs), sparking a discussion on what truly constitutes an inappropriate battle tag.
The player had requested assistance from a GM to change their name after making a typo. The GM obliged and altered their name from “WifeLeaver” to “Wifeleaver,” presumably a clever play on the hero Lifeweaver.
However, the player later received a notification from another GM stating that their name had been changed due to reports of it being inappropriate.
Commenters quickly came to the player’s defense, sharing their own experiences of witnessing variations of racial slurs used as names without any consequences. It appears that Blizzard turns a blind eye unless such names are reported.
Another issue raised in the comments was Blizzard’s refusal to provide specific information about bans, which can be frustrating for players seeking clarity on why they were banned.
Players also expressed dissatisfaction with the automated banning system in Overwatch 2, leading some to avoid interacting with others in-game out of fear of being mass-reported and losing their accounts.
These issues have the potential to become significant problems in the long run. The current automated banning system can be exploited by players who find it amusing to get others banned without valid reasons. Combined with Blizzard’s lack of transparency regarding bans, this can be incredibly frustrating for those wrongfully banned.
