Playing the DLC for Remnant 2, The Awakened King, on Apocalypse difficulty may not be the best idea. While it’s a great achievement to beat the campaign on this challenging setting, starting the DLC on Apocalypse can lead to some frustrating consequences.
On your first playthrough of The Awakened King, you get to experience all the new levels in a consecutive order. However, on subsequent runs, these new areas are mixed into the Losomn world map along with the other levels, making it less likely for you to encounter them.
While this system seems reasonable, players on Reddit have discovered a major flaw. If you start The Awakened King on a high difficulty and find it too challenging, you’ll need to reroll your run to lower the difficulty. Unfortunately, this means you’ll miss out on the opportunity to play all the new levels together as they were originally intended.
Although this setup makes sense considering the randomized nature of Remnant 2, it’s disheartening for players who underestimated the difficulty. Many players expressed frustration on Reddit, admitting their mistake and regretting that they can no longer experience the DLC as a cohesive whole.
“Yeah, I messed up as well. It’s my fault, but I’m still angry,” one player complained. Another player shared their struggle with the DLC’s challenging enemies and how they had to lower the difficulty before realizing their error, lamenting, “I guess I’m out of luck now.” In another thread, a player expressed extreme frustration, stating, “I made the mistake of rerolling my adventure for the same reason. I ended up deleting the game because I can’t access the new zones.”
While deleting the game may be an extreme reaction, it’s evident that players are unhappy with the current situation. It would be beneficial if Gunfire Games allowed players to replay The Awakened King in a one-shot mode or provided the option to change the difficulty without needing to reroll the entire DLC.
Until such changes are implemented, it’s advisable not to start the DLC on Apocalypse difficulty unless you are completely confident in your build and loadout.
