World of Warcraft players are pleading with Blizzard to reintroduce Game Masters (GMs) in the upcoming Season of Discovery. However, they don’t just want the ability to contact them through tickets; they also desire to see GMs roaming around the game world, just like in the good old days.
Season of Discovery is scheduled for release on November 30th, and while Blizzard has provided some details about this new version of WoW Classic, there is still much that remains unknown. A Reddit user expressed their hope that Season of Discovery would bring back GMs, who used to interact with players and resolve issues while traversing Azeroth.
Many WoW players reminisce about the past when they could randomly encounter GMs in the game. These GMs would directly engage with players, solve problems, teleport around (sometimes with other players), and even create chaos that would otherwise be impossible. In a way, GMs were viewed as god-like figures by WoW players due to their ability to manipulate the game.
Reddit users pointed out that many private servers still have GMs actively participating in the game world, and they believe it wouldn’t be difficult for Blizzard to reintroduce this feature. While it would undoubtedly be enjoyable to have GMs back and be part of the community once again, there are several reasons why they are no longer as prevalent as before. GMs still exist in WoW, but their level of activity has decreased significantly.
As documented by YouTuber Jaggro, GMs used to go above and beyond to assist players in any way possible, whether it was necessary or not. Players have shared stories on websites like Bluetracker.gg about their encounters with GMs, portraying them as generous benefactors who often bestowed special gifts and benefits upon players. Unfortunately, some individuals took advantage of this and sought unfair advantages from willing GMs, leading to community uproar. As a result, Blizzard limited the powers of GMs.
After the Wrath of the Lich King expansion in 2008, GMs were restricted in terms of how much they could assist players. Additionally, they were no longer visible in the game world, which diminished much of their charm.
While it would be fantastic to have GMs return in WoW, considering the reasons behind their loss of privileges, it seems unlikely that Blizzard would allow them to roam freely once again.
