Epic Games has introduced a new voice reporting feature in Fortnite that aims to address the issues of harassment and ban enforcement. This feature allows players to submit audio recordings along with their reports, enabling Epic Games to listen to five minutes of audio and verify the reported incidents.
The main objective of this feature is to simplify the process of verifying reports and determining whether a ban is necessary. It not only benefits those who file reports but also ensures that false reporting is minimized, as audio evidence provides a clear record of the incident.
Players under the age of 18 will have this feature automatically activated during their games, while others can choose to opt-in or not. To use this feature, players need to enable it in their settings, allowing five minutes of audio to be recorded on a rolling basis for reporting purposes. The recorded audio can then be sent to Epic Games when needed.
If a player is reported, their voice will be shared with the support staff, regardless of whether they have opted in to voice reporting or not. Reports are anonymous, and Epic Games assures that audio recordings will only be kept for 14 days unless legal action is required.
This new voice reporting feature is part of Epic Games’ efforts to create a more welcoming environment for younger gamers. Another recent change includes restrictions on certain skins in multiple game modes.
It remains to be seen how effective this new feature will be in combating harassment and enforcing bans in Fortnite.
