CS2 released a major update on Nov. 16 that addressed various issues and made changes to every map in the game. However, players were surprised to discover that the update also buffed the distance at which the bomb can be thrown on the T side.
Twitter user @OrelStealth showcased the increased bomb throw distance on Dust 2 from Short A to the plant area on A. Although the ledge provided some assistance, it is evident that the bomb now travels much further than before.
While we couldn’t replicate the exact throw, extensive testing confirms that the bomb does indeed fly a greater distance when thrown. This change was not explicitly mentioned in the patch notes, but the update did mention adjustments to weapon drop trajectories for more consistent throws. It appears that this adjustment has also affected the bomb’s throw distance on Dust 2, making it easier to throw onto A from CT ramp or through the window onto the B site.
Although this change may not drastically alter the meta, it could potentially benefit the T side in certain situations. Instead of risking dangerous areas and chokepoints, the bomb can now be safely thrown to a teammate already on the site. In time-sensitive scenarios, a well-executed bomb throw could mean planting it before the round timer expires.
With practice and focus, professional CS2 players and teams may consider strategizing the most advantageous bomb throws. At the very least, it means that the dedicated bomb carrier in a team will have to run further if they wish to avoid their responsibilities.
