Snaking in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Annoying, Yet Effective

Xavier Ward

If you’ve played enough Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you’ve probably encountered players using the snaking strategy. This elusive tactic of bobbing and weaving behind cover can be incredibly frustrating, but it’s also highly effective for gathering information, staying alive, and securing kills.

During a recent livestream on Repullze’s Twitch channel, Greg Reisdorf, a designer from Sledgehammer Games, acknowledged the prevalence of snaking and even gave it a temporary seal of approval. He stated that if you’re able to snake successfully, you should take advantage of it because the game allows it.

However, Reisdorf also mentioned that the developers are actively investigating this mechanic and aiming to strike a balance between players who snake and those who have to counter it. While there are no known bugs related to snaking, they are considering how often it should be allowed and what feels fair in terms of gameplay.

Snaking has been a controversial strategy in the Call of Duty community for years, with professional players even disagreeing on whether it should be allowed in competitive matches. It has been unofficially banned in some cases through gentlemen’s agreements, but it remains prevalent among top players in Modern Warfare 3.

The debate on whether snaking should continue to be a part of Call of Duty will likely persist until the developers make a decision. It’s uncertain whether they will nerf the repeated crouching and proning or if snaking will remain untouched. Only time will tell, but it’s safe to say that this topic will continue to spark discussions among players.
