TheShy’s Disappointing Performance in the 2023 Worlds Finals

superadmin

Weibo Gaming’s top laner, TheShy, had a strong showing throughout the 2023 League of Legends Worlds tournament. However, his performance in the finals against T1 fell short of expectations.

Despite playing his signature champion, Aatrox, twice, TheShy only managed to secure one kill and five assists in the three-game series. His struggles continued in the final game when he played Kennen, marking the first time he had back-to-back games with a KDA below 1.0 since the LPL Summer regular season.

Leading up to the grand finals, TheShy had the most solo kills in the tournament. However, he was outperformed by T1’s Zeus, who won the MVP award for the finals. Zeus showcased exceptional skills on Gwen and Aatrox, contributing to T1’s dominant victories in games two and three while only dying four times in total.

TheShy’s Performance in the Finals Game 1 Game 2 Game 3 Combined
Kills 1 0 0 1
Deaths 4 6 6 16
Assists 1 1 3 5
KDA 0.375 0 0 0.375

While it is possible to contribute to a victory without having a positive KDA, TheShy’s consistently negative performances in the finals did not help his team. Weibo Gaming as a whole struggled, with only one kill in the second game. Light, Weibo’s ADC, failed to secure a single kill until the third match, by which point T1 had gained an unstoppable momentum.

Although making it to the grand finals can be seen as a moral victory for Weibo Gaming, it is undoubtedly disheartening to be on the losing end of one of the most one-sided Worlds grand finals ever. The best-of-five series concluded in under 90 minutes of in-game time, and aside from some early game pressure, Weibo Gaming appeared to be outmatched throughout the series.
