The leader of Liquid Guild in World of Warcraft Dragonflight took to Twitter on November 19 to express frustration over the balance changes implemented during the Race to World First (RWF) in the latest WoW content update.
In the tweet, Liquid Guild leader Maximum shared how his guild had dedicated an entire day to progressing through the latest WoW Raid, Amidrassil, the Dream’s Hope, only to be halted at the final boss. As North American WoW players receive updates approximately a day earlier than European players, and since Liquid Guild always streams their world-first attempts on Twitch, it was expected that other guilds would utilize their strategies to clear bosses more quickly.
However, what caught them off guard was Blizzard’s decision to release an update that nerfed the final boss during Liquid Guild’s attempt, making the encounter easier and potentially jeopardizing their Race to World First record.
Maximum expressed his frustration with the RWF, stating that Liquid Guild would still emerge as the winners in the end but highlighting the bias and lack of independent thinking within the competition. He also noted that never before had a WoW boss been nerfed while he and his team were sleeping.
Reactions to Maximum’s tweet have been mixed. Many pointed out that despite the boss nerf, NA players still have a significant advantage over EU players due to the earlier release of content patches. Others placed blame on Liquid Guild for live-streaming the event, providing other guilds with free instructions on boss mechanics. Some suggested that Blizzard should release new content updates simultaneously for both EU and NA players to eliminate such issues entirely.
Determining which players truly hold the advantage is difficult, regardless of perspective. The Race to World First is a fiercely competitive event, and even the slightest advantage can make the difference between first and second place.
Hopefully, Blizzard will address this issue in the upcoming The War Within expansion.
