Developers of The Simpsons: Hit & Run Express Disbelief Over Lack of Sequel

Derek Morgan

The developers of The Simpsons: Hit & Run are shocked and disappointed that the popular game never received a sequel. Despite its commercial success and cult following, it has been over two decades since the game’s release without any plans for a follow-up.

In 2003, The Simpsons: Hit & Run became a hit among fans of the famous family and was often compared to Grand Theft Auto. Many consider it to be the best game featuring The Simpsons.

During an interview on the MixxMax Youtube channel, the developers revealed their surprise at the absence of a sequel. Producer John Melchior expressed his confusion, stating, “It was just a really bizarre decision. I’ll never understand it. Most people involved in the production couldn’t comprehend it either.”

Radical Entertainment, the studio behind the game, had plans for a sequel, but production was abruptly halted for unknown reasons. There were no details about the plot, but one proposed feature was the ability to tow objects from vehicles. Programmer Greg Mayer even created a prototype for this idea.

The initial plans for the sequel were ambitious, aiming to create a franchise with five additional games. However, everything fell apart when Vivendi failed to secure the video game rights for The Simpsons. These rights eventually went to EA Games, who have not released a game from the franchise since 2007.

It is astonishing that such a popular and enduring franchise like The Simpsons has not seen a sequel or remaster in over two decades. While fans eagerly await the next Grand Theft Auto installment, they can only dream of a future where The Simpsons: Hit & Run receives the sequel it deserves.

Year Game Score
2003 The Simpsons: Hit & Run Popular and critically acclaimed
