Baldur’s Gate 3: The Game That Doesn’t Have Horses

Xavier Ward

Players of Baldur’s Gate 3 recently discovered that the game does not include any horses, which is a surprising omission for a typical RPG. While some players found this observation odd, they also provided reasonable explanations for the absence of horses in the game. The open world nature of BG3, with its varied landscapes and terrains, would make horse travel either too easy or impossible in different areas. Additionally, implementing horses as a feature would require significant mapping and adjustments, which may have been deemed unnecessary during the game’s development. Ultimately, the absence of horses in BG3 does not detract from its overall quality and success.

Despite the initial surprise, players have come to realize that horses are not essential in BG3. The absence of rideable animals has not hindered the gameplay experience, and the game has received critical acclaim, even being considered a strong contender for Game of the Year. This serves as a reminder that not every RPG element needs to be included in a game to make it successful.
