Fans of Pokémon across all generations have something exciting to look forward to in the upcoming DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet called The Indigo Disk. The DLC will bring back all the previous starter Pokémon, but it seems that catching them won’t be easy.
In the second DLC, players will explore Blueberry Academy’s Terrarium, which offers various environments to discover. This is where you can find all your favorite starter Pokémon. However, it appears that obtaining Charmander, Chikorita, and the rest of the gang will require some effort.
During a preview of The Indigo Disk, PhillyBeatzU revealed that none of the event attendees encountered a starter Pokémon during their hour-long journey. A Nintendo representative hinted that players will need to figure out how to make them appear.
It is likely that the appearance of these Pokémon will be tied to story progression, possibly requiring players to defeat the new Elite Four before they can be obtained. However, the developers’ exact plans remain a mystery at this point.
Making starter Pokémon difficult to obtain is not uncommon in the Pokémon franchise. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, for example, players must complete the main story before the starters they didn’t choose at the beginning start to appear. Trading has also been a requirement in the mainline Pokémon games.
While some starter Pokémon have already been added to Scarlet and Violet through Tera Raid events, such as Charmander and Cyndaquil, they are not considered part of the Pokédex. This is likely to change with The Indigo Disk, which will introduce even more Pokémon to collect, including all the starters, on top of the 400 already in the base game and the 100 added in The Teal Mask DLC.
