Mintrocket, the studio behind the highly acclaimed Dave the Diver, has unveiled gameplay footage of their upcoming project, Nakwon: Last Paradise. However, fans expecting another light-hearted adventure are in for a surprise. Nakwon takes a dark turn as it immerses players in a zombie apocalypse.
Unlike its predecessor, Nakwon is not a single-player game. It introduces a PvPvE (Player vs Player vs Environment) concept, where you and multiple players must navigate the ruins of Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, in search of weapons and items to complete missions while evading hordes of enemy zombies. While you have the option to shoot down any zombie you encounter, stealth becomes crucial as even a single gunshot can alert nearby zombies, drawing them towards you.
The game’s Steam listing describes Nakwon as a blend of simulation and extraction survival, emphasizing the need for players to make decisions regarding their own survival, including what to do and eat. While cooperation with other players is possible, Mintrocket advises players to “trust no one,” suggesting that betraying fellow survivors may be necessary to ensure personal safety. The stakes are high, as death results in the loss of all progress.
With no confirmed release date yet, it is likely that Nakwon will take some time to develop, given its current pre-alpha phase. However, Mintrocket has released 20 minutes of early gameplay footage to provide a glimpse into the world of Nakwon. Even at this early stage, it is evident that sound will play a vital role in survival, allowing players to quietly open doors and use distractions like car alarms to divert the attention of zombies. Those interested in trying the game will be pleased to know that a pre-alpha test is scheduled for November 29th, open to anyone who requests access.
While Dave the Diver’s critical and commercial success, along with its nomination for Best Indie Game at The Game Awards, is sure to attract attention to Nakwon, it is clear that the new game targets a different audience. Fans of Mintrocket’s first project may not find the same appeal in Nakwon’s darker theme. However, for those curious about Dave the Diver, the game is currently available on Steam and Nintendo Switch, with hopes for future releases on PlayStation and Xbox.
