Focus Entertainment has announced that the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been delayed until the second half of 2024. Originally scheduled for Winter 2023, the game requires more time for polishing and ensuring the best possible experience for fans. The delay comes as no surprise, considering the lack of an exact launch date and the need for extensive development work.
The news brief from Focus Entertainment, shared on Nov. 21, acknowledges the excitement surrounding Space Marine 2, which has been wishlisted over a million times. The company is committed to delivering a high-quality game that exceeds the expectations of the franchise’s countless fans. An announcement regarding the new release date is expected in early December, possibly during The Game Awards 2023 on Dec. 7.
Despite being showcased at Gamescom 2023 in August, where it received mostly positive feedback, the delay suggests that further improvements are necessary. Previews from the event indicated that fans would be rewarded for their patience, and a beta test is still planned, although no date has been announced yet. Interested players can register for the beta test on the game’s official website.
Space Marine 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the original game released in 2011. It retains the hack-and-slash meets third-person shooter gameplay and brings back protagonist Captain Titus, who leads his squad in a battle against the alien Tyranid race. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
