One player in Baldur’s Gate 3 mistakenly creates two versions of themselves as Guardian characters, leading to a hilarious situation where they must romance their mirror image to gain more power through Illithid Powers.
When Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in August, the Guardian character sparked curiosity due to limited information available. Referred to as “dream lovers” during the beta, players speculated whether the Guardian replaced their previous lover or was an entirely new entity. The dream lover’s suggestive nature was off-putting to many. However, after nearly four months of the game’s release, it is now widely known that the Guardian is a romanceable character (without spoiling Act Three).
Unfortunately, one player misunderstood the Guardian creation process and unintentionally ended up with two identical versions of themselves. As a result, they find themselves in the peculiar situation of having to pursue a romantic relationship with their own mirror image.
While it is not necessary for this player to romance their twin Guardian, doing so will unlock specific tentacle endings, wild romances, and additional mind-flayer parasites, granting access to advanced Illithid Powers. This adds a disturbing aspect to the Baldur’s Gate 3 story, and it’s best not to dwell on it too much.
Although witnessing the romance scenes between the player and their twin Guardian may be unsettling, it has become a source of amusement for many. Some players have even suggested customizing hirelings to create their own iconic twin pairings. Others find the idea of learning to love oneself quite wholesome, and I tend to agree.
The extensive customization options in Baldur’s Gate 3 enhance immersion and enjoyment for most players. However, for this particular player, it has led to an unintended consequence. Perhaps Larian Studios should consider adding a warning on the Guardian creation page, although that would deprive us of more of these comical situations. Therefore, I am not advocating for any immediate changes.
