The highly anticipated Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) beta test arrived in the West on November 24, but some players are not pleased with recent adjustments made since Gamescom. The developer has set up a feedback megathread on Reddit for the duration of the beta test, and many players are expressing concerns about the “censorship” added to the latest version. They are urging the developer to either revert the changes or create an uncensored global version of the game.
Compared to previous marketing materials and the previous public build, the developer, HoYoverse, has toned down the levels of violence and sexuality in ZZZ. This includes altering suggestive poses of female characters, adjusting their character models, and removing certain graphic images. However, players argue that these changes are unnecessary since the game already has a rating of 16 from ESRB/PEGI.
Speculation among players suggests that HoYoverse made these adjustments due to pressure from the Chinese market, which is why players are requesting a global version of the game. In particular, changes made to the character Nicole Demara to make her less provocative have been met with a negative response from some players. The community’s strong reactions on this matter have led to the locking of an official thread and the creation of a separate “rant” thread.
Despite the presence of other feedback threads, complaints about censorship continue to dominate the discussions, making it difficult to find other feedback on the game so far.
