Alliance, a legacy Dota 2 organization, has been struggling to remain relevant in the Dota Pro Circuit era. In an effort to correct this, the management has introduced an unusual tryout method for the year 2024.
After failing to qualify for ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023, fans speculated that a roster shuffle might be on the horizon. However, instead of releasing players, Alliance CEO and Dota legend Loda announced that the team would be holding open tryouts from December 1 to 7.
Unlike traditional tryouts where fresh talent is evaluated, Alliance’s current players have not been released. Instead, every position on the team will accept tryouts, including the current players. This means that charlie, ChYuaN, Pablo, Handsken, and even Alliance staple s4 will have to fight to keep their spots on the team.
Alliance has struggled to compete with top rosters in recent seasons, with only one successful season in the last three years. In an effort to change this, the organization plans to hold biannual open tryouts to ensure the roster is in peak condition and underperformers are replaced by new talent.
The last time Alliance had a roster of rising talent was in 2018-19 when they signed iNSaNiA, Boxi, miCKe, Taiga, and qojqva. This lineup went on to form the core of Team Liquid’s current title contender. Since then, Alliance has gone through multiple iterations without finding long-term success.
Specific details about the tryouts have not been shared yet, but they are open to any player and will run until December 7. More information about participants, requirements, and results will be shared before any potential roster shuffle.
