Riot’s annual League of Legends Winterblessed event is set to begin soon, but players are already expressing their dissatisfaction with the event pass. They are disappointed that it contains fewer valuable items compared to last year’s pass, and as a result, they have called for a boycott.
The Winterblessed event is a recurring event in League of Legends, similar to the annual Halloween event. It typically features a new event pass with missions, rewards, and new skins, or a sale of past Winterblessed skins. While the official release date for the 2023 Winterblessed event has not been announced yet, it is expected to start in the first week of December when the last patch of the year goes live on December 6th. Normally, this would generate excitement among players, but this year, they are instead furious after seeing the new Winterblessed rewards.
SkinSpotlight on X recently revealed information about the upcoming 2023 League event, including the planned Winterblessed rewards. Players were disappointed with the “nerfed” offerings, particularly the absence of the grab bag that was given out last year.
At first glance, one might wonder why players are upset when there are still many rewards available. Riot is indeed offering League players a generous amount of goodies if they complete the missions and progress through the event tiers. However, players are unhappy with the decrease in value. The Winterblessed Event will have one less grab bag and less orange essence, but two additional banners. Players feel that this trade-off is unfair, especially considering that the standard Event Pass will still cost 1,650 Riot Points.
As a result, players will receive fewer rewards for the same price as previous events, leading many to become frustrated with the changes. This does not mean that the banners are unappealing—they are actually quite stunning. However, as event passes continue to offer less valuable rewards, players are stating that they will no longer purchase them.
It is important to remember that buying the event pass is not necessary to enjoy playing League or to receive the free rewards. Whether or not the event pass is worth it is a personal decision. Personally, I am excited for the new Winterblessed skins.
