The Dota 2 competitive scene has been rocked by the recent confession of Arslan “Xannii” Shadzhanov, who admitted to engaging in match-fixing. Xannii’s revelations have had a profound impact on the reputation of his former team, Team Empire, according to his ex-teammate Jamshid “jAM3S” Abdurashitov.
In an interview with Escorenews on August 25th, Xannii revealed that financial struggles led him to succumb to the temptation of match-fixing during his professional career. What surprised many was that Xannii gave up on himself shortly after joining the reputable organization, Team Empire, tarnishing its credibility.
JAM3S reflected on their time together at Empire, noting that the team initially showed promise and was gradually building synergy. However, things took a turn for the worse, and “everything went to hell” at some point.
Xannii discussed two specific matches that he agreed to fix, but jAM3S believes the impact of the situation extended beyond just those few games. After one of Empire’s encounters with HYDRA, Xannii’s teammates began to piece together the truth, identifying “who was a friend, who was an enemy, who was the devil, and who was a brother.”
As a result, Empire decided to part ways with the roster, which included jAM3S and Xannii. The organization also announced that it would suspend its Dota 2 operations indefinitely after a failed attempt to return to the lower division of EEU DPC.
