Riot Games has made a surprising announcement regarding the upcoming preseason changes for League of Legends. In addition to removing Mythic items and introducing another ranked season split, the developers have revealed that mid-scope updates will be put on hold for now.
Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, one of the developers, explained that the team working on mid-scopes is currently focused on the preseason changes. Once the preseason work is completed, they will assess whether to prioritize mid-scopes or other projects.
Mid-scope updates involve making changes to a champion’s kit without major visual or sound effect updates. An example of this is the recent update to Ivern’s abilities, which shifted his playstyle to a more aggressive approach.
When discussing the release cadence for the preseason changes, Meddler mentioned that they plan to roll out all the changes in one big patch, followed by additional balance adjustments in the next few patches.
This approach aims to ensure that the preseason changes are thoroughly tested and polished before the start of the ranked season. It also allows for faster follow-up adjustments to maintain a balanced meta.
