League of Legends Ranked Climb and Season Resets Set for Overhaul
Riot Games is planning significant changes to the League of Legends ranked climb and season resets. These updates are part of the shift towards a three-split setup for the competitive calendar in 2024. While the details are not finalized, Riot’s senior design lead, Jordan “BarackProbama” Checkman, confirmed that adjustments are being made to LP gains, placement games, and ladder resets.
What to Expect from the Changes
The upcoming changes will resemble the adjustments made during the introduction of the two-split system. Currently, the first split begins in January, followed by the second split in June or July. Between these splits, Riot performs a soft reset of matchmaking ratings and ranks for all players.
The League development team aims to refine the climb experience and reset process. This means players can anticipate more LP gains for winning matches, fewer placement games each split, and a softer reset when the ladder restarts.
Player Reactions and Feedback
While some players welcome these changes, others believe they do not go far enough. Suggestions have been made to rework the MMR system, especially since divisional promotional games have been removed. Concerns have also been raised about the speed at which players can achieve prestigious ranks and the number of splits in a year. Some players even consider the move to splits a failure and request a complete reversal.
Implementation and Preseason Update
Although the exact implementation date is unknown, it is likely that these changes will be introduced in League Patch 13.24, scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, as part of the preseason update.
Please note that until these changes are officially implemented on League servers, there is a possibility of adjustments or cancellation.
