Why Elden Ring Should Take Inspiration from Armored Core

superadmin

Armored Core 6 is a mech game that incorporates elements from FromSoftware’s Souls genre. While the idea of mechs in Elden Ring may seem absurd, there is one aspect of Armored Core that could greatly benefit the game: the mission replay system.

Although Elden Ring doesn’t have traditional missions, boss fights are a major highlight for players. Allowing them to replay these battles would be a welcome addition. Currently, players can only experience boss fights again by starting a new playthrough or entering New Game Plus mode. However, having the ability to face familiar foes during a single playthrough would provide a new challenge and an opportunity to earn valuable runes.

Grinding for runes can become tedious, especially when players are not yet powerful enough to defeat certain bosses. This often leads to mindlessly slaying mobs in order to accumulate runes. By implementing a boss replay system, players could instead choose to revisit defeated bosses, such as Godrick the Grafted, to level up and progress more efficiently.

Armored Core already excels in this area. If players are struggling with Sea Spider, they can go back and test their skills against Balteus once more, with the potential reward of COAM. This not only makes the grinding process more enjoyable but also speeds it up.

The desire for a boss replay system in Elden Ring has been expressed by many players. Modders have even created their own versions of boss replay systems, allowing players to unleash their frustration on bosses like Radagon. Given that FromSoftware has already embraced a similar system in Sekiro with the Reflections of Strength mode, it is not far-fetched to imagine it being implemented in Elden Ring.

While it may not be included in the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it is hoped that Elden Ring will eventually provide players with the option to replay boss battles without having to start a new playthrough.
