League of Legends, the popular online game, is celebrating its 14th anniversary this year. As the game grows older, so do the memorable moments within it. One such moment occurred 10 years ago when Faker made an unforgettable play on Zed against Ryu.
In 2013, SKT T1 and KT Rolster Bullets faced off in Korea’s Regional Finals. The stakes were high, with the chance to win the Champions Summer title and secure a spot at the World Championship. The best-of-five series went down to the wire, reaching a thrilling game five. Adding to the excitement, both Faker and Ryu chose to play as Zed.
During the final minutes of the game, Faker showcased his incredible skills. He cleansed Ryu’s Death Mark and effortlessly dodged every attack thrown his way. With only a sliver of health remaining, Faker stylishly eliminated Ryu. This play has since become the most iconic moment in League of Legends history.
What makes this play even more memorable is Ryu’s reaction. His face perfectly captured the frustration, anger, sadness, and annoyance that League players often experience in their everyday solo queue matches. Unfortunately for Ryu, his team ultimately lost the match just minutes later.
Since that legendary play, Faker has gone on to win three World Championships and is now aiming for a fourth in 2023. He is undeniably one of the greatest players of all time. On the other hand, Ryu has transitioned to coaching and will not be participating in this year’s Worlds. Despite their diverging paths, both players will forever be remembered for their roles in this iconic moment.
