In a heartbreaking turn of events, a Pokémon Go player’s six-year-old niece mistakenly used their precious Master Ball on a lowly Geodude. The player shared this unfortunate incident on Reddit, showcasing the innocence and adorableness of their young relative.
The player had offered their phone to their niece to play Pokémon Go, and she encountered a Team Rocket Grunt. Encouraged by the player, she took on the challenge and easily defeated the grunt. However, when it came time to catch the Geodude, she struggled and grew frustrated.
After numerous failed attempts, the niece exclaimed, “That’s it, I’m using the mega ball!” The player assumed she meant the Great Ball or the Ultra Ball, but to their horror, she had actually used the Master Ball. The Geodude was captured in the iconic purple Poké Ball with a prominent M, leaving the player devastated.
Despite their internal anguish, the player expressed their understanding and love for their niece, emphasizing that her enjoyment of the game was more important than the loss of the Master Ball. The Pokémon Go community responded with sympathy and admiration for the player’s patience and kindness.
While the loss of the Master Ball is irreplaceable, some players reminded the community that there is a chance to earn a second Master Ball in the new Pokémon Go season, “Adventures Abound,” which began on September 1st. However, obtaining this coveted item requires completing challenging tasks such as catching 1,000 Pokémon and participating in 60 raids.
It is worth noting that the Master Ball was not introduced in Pokémon Go until May 2023 during Season 10, “Rising Heroes.” Players could earn their first and only Master Ball through the Let’s Go free Special Research. The current season offers another opportunity to obtain a Master Ball through a set of Timed Investigation research.
Unfortunately, the player who lost their Master Ball will not be able to undo their niece’s innocent mistake. However, this incident serves as a reminder of the joy and bonding that Pokémon Go can bring to families, even in the face of unexpected setbacks.
