Starfield’s early access launch has been smooth so far, but a few pesky bugs have slipped through the cracks. These glitches include headless NPCs with only eyeballs and characters missing entire faces, reminiscent of bugs seen in Fallout games. While not gamebreaking, these visual bugs are certainly unnerving and strange.
Most of the September bugs are popping up on PC and revolve around NPCs. Players have encountered vendors with no faces and NPCs with missing heads, except for their eyeballs. Other visual bugs include NPCs with upside-down heads and fractured textures.
Despite the glitches, some players are actually enjoying these visual bugs and wish Bethesda would keep them in the game. However, it’s likely that Bethesda will want to improve Starfield and fix these bugs before the official release on Sept. 5.
Starfield is built upon an upgraded version of the Creation Engine used in Fallout games, which explains why these familiar bugs have reappeared. The otherwise smooth early access launch supports the claim that Starfield would have “the fewest bugs of any Bethesda launch.”
We’ll find out if any day-one patches will be deployed to address these issues when the game is officially released. In the meantime, players can enjoy the faceless, headless NPCs while they last.
