Popular streamer Dr Disrespect recently revealed that he was denied the opportunity to work with Bethesda on a sponsorship deal for their highly anticipated game, Starfield. According to him, this was due to his “past controversies.”
Dr Disrespect expressed his eagerness to test out the game and was disappointed when he couldn’t secure sponsorship or early access. To understand the reason behind this decision, he decided to investigate the social media of Pete Hines, Bethesda’s head of publishing.
While reading Hines’ X (formerly known as Twitter) profile, Dr Disrespect noticed that Hines identified as “he, him.” This led the streamer to believe that his previous stance on Activision’s ban of NICKMERCS’s Call of Duty skin during Pride Month might be the cause of Bethesda’s refusal to work with him. In response to the ban, Dr Disrespect had boycotted Warzone.
After expressing his disappointment on social media, Dr Disrespect faced backlash from some users who accused him of being controversial. In response, he clarified that his words were taken out of context and misunderstood. He also stated that he believes politics should have no place in the video game industry.
Despite not receiving sponsorship, Dr Disrespect managed to play Starfield on the day of its early launch. His livestream of the game lasted for over 10 hours, providing his audience with an in-depth look at the highly anticipated title.
