Professional VALORANT player Santiago “Daveeys” Ruiz tragically passed away on September 3, just one day after celebrating his 23rd birthday. The news was announced by his former team, KRÜ Esports, on September 4.
Ruiz had been a member of KRÜ since October 2022 and had recently competed in the VALORANT Champions tournament in August. He played a crucial role in helping KRÜ secure their spot through the VCT Americas Last Chance Qualifier in July.
In a heartfelt statement, KRÜ expressed their deep sadness and shock over the sudden loss of their teammate. They described Daveeys as a remarkable player and an exceptional teammate who always approached the game with humility and dedication. He took great pride in representing his country and region on the global VALORANT stage.
KRÜ Esports requested the community’s support for Ruiz’s friends and family during this difficult time. His funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, September 5 in Colombia, and fans are invited to join the family in bidding their final farewell.
The VALORANT community has been deeply affected by the news, with many prominent players and teams expressing their condolences and mourning Ruiz’s untimely passing. VCT caster Pablo “xrm” Oliveira described him as one of the most humble and incredible individuals he had the privilege of meeting. KRÜ player Nicolas “Klaus” Ferrari expressed his love and gratitude for Daveeys, emphasizing the support and friendship they shared.
This tragic event marks the second loss the VCT scene has experienced this year, following the passing of former Vitality player Karel “Twisten” Ašenbrene in June. The VALORANT community continues to come together to support one another during these difficult times.
