Product scarcity for Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter has caused frustration among players, but the game’s competitive scene remains strong. At the recent Nan Desu Kan convention in Denver, Pro-Play Games showcased a diverse meta, offering an exciting glimpse into the game’s potential.
Addressing Product Shortages
Upon its global retail launch on September 1st, Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter faced a shortage of available products. Many stores quickly sold out, leading to price gouging on the secondary market. To alleviate this issue, Ravensburger and Disney announced plans for booster product releases throughout September and October. Additionally, a reprint of The First Chapter is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, shortly after the release of The Second Chapter in December.
Competitive Play Highlights
Despite the product scarcity, competitive play for Disney Lorcana kicked off at the Nan Desu Kan convention. The first organized play tournament took place in Tennessee at the end of August, featuring 39 players. The top eight decks consisted mainly of Ruby Amethyst builds, with six of them making it to the final round. This dominance continued at the convention in Denver, where 64 players competed in the first of three Pro-Play Games tournaments.
Top Eight Meta
The top eight players and their respective decks at the Nan Desu Kan convention were as follows:
Player | Deck | Placement |
---|---|---|
Anthony King | Amber Steel | First |
Jonathan Ball | Ruby Amethyst | Second |
Brooks Clark | Steel Amethyst | Third |
Ryan Miles | Emerald Amethyst | Fourth |
Sam Cahill | Amber Amethyst | Fifth |
Brandon Bremont | Steel Amethyst | Sixth |
Hung Le | Ruby Amethyst | Seventh |
Joseph Trueblood | Amber Emerald | Eighth |
The Ruby Amethyst Control deck continued to dominate, securing two top-eight placements. However, Midrange builds like Emerald Amethyst and Amber Emerald also emerged as strong contenders, providing a counter to the Control decks. As more cards become available, the meta is expected to evolve further.
Looking Ahead
Players seeking Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter products should check with their local game stores, as some will receive shipments in the coming weeks before the booster push scheduled for October. The next Pro-Play Games tournament is set to take place in Miami on October 21st and 22nd.
