Since the release of Season of the Witch in Destiny 2, a balance update has caused a significant shift in PvP weapon usage. The Ammit AR2, an auto rifle introduced in Season of Plunder, has quickly risen to become the most popular weapon across quickplay, competitive, and Trials of Osiris. This sudden dominance is a result of changes to zoom and damage falloff mechanics, which have leveled the playing field for auto rifles.
Prior to the update, auto rifles were virtually non-existent in PvP after the decline of the 600 RPM meta. However, the decoupling of zoom and damage falloff, along with individual rebalancing for each weapon type, has given auto rifles a new lease on life. Now, auto rifles and pulse rifles with the same range stat have identical damage falloff start distances, allowing auto rifles to compete effectively.
The Ammit AR2’s rise to prominence can be attributed to its strong base stats and the availability of powerful PvP perks through crafting. With perks like Enhanced Tap The Trigger and Enhanced Dynamic Sway Reduction, the Ammit AR2 has the potential to outperform pulse rifles in terms of range. Despite being released in Season of Plunder without much fanfare, the Ammit AR2 is finally realizing its true potential.
Game Mode | Most Used Weapon | Usage Rate |
---|---|---|
Quickplay | Ammit AR2 | 2.86% |
Competitive | Ammit AR2 | 3.97% |
Trials of Osiris | Ammit AR2 | 6.01% |
In quickplay, the Ammit AR2 holds a usage rate of 2.86%, narrowly surpassing the newly released Unending Tempest SMG at 2.75%. In the more competitive Crucible arenas, the dominance of the Ammit AR2 is even more evident, with a usage rate of 3.97%. The second most used weapon, Matador 64 (a shotgun), lags behind at 2.93%.
In Trials of Osiris, the Ammit AR2 has claimed the top spot with an impressive usage rate of 6.01%. Even after receiving nerfs, The Immortal Adept version remains in third place, but its usage has dropped to 4.3%.
As Destiny 2’s PvP meta continues to evolve, it remains to be seen if the reign of the Ammit AR2 will persist or if other auto rifles will rise in popularity as players explore the changes to range and damage falloff mechanics.
