Despite a global shortage of cards, players are still gathering and competing against each other in casual league play. Tournaments hosted by PPG at conventions have showcased a developing meta, and players are also testing out strategies on Pixleborn. For those unable to attend conventions or seeking a tabletop TCG experience, local game stores are running casual league play through Ravensburger and Disney Lorcana’s first organized play model.
The first organized play model for Disney Lorcana encourages both competitive and casual gameplay. Players can earn points by attending events, winning matches, and participating in other activities. These activities include casual play modes, such as multiplayer pods. Unlike the MTG Commander format, Disney Lorcana multiplayer is a free-for-all, allowing for politics, allegiances, and friendly banter.
During the league play, players have been using slightly altered Starter Decks due to the shortage of cards. However, for multiplayer pods, everyone has been using variations of the Disney Lorcana Starter Decks. Surprisingly, these decks have performed even better in multiplayer matches. Alliances were quickly formed against certain decks, and a straight-out-of-the-box deck emerged as the winner of the pod. Despite losing every game, the entire league play experience has been immensely enjoyable.
