An alleged theft of Magic: The Gathering cards and Dungeons & Dragons books occurred during GenCon, resulting in charges against two individuals. Thomas Dunbar and Andrew Giaume were caught on camera stealing a pallet of products from Pastimes Comics & Games. They have been charged with felony theft and could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty.
Security footage from GenCon shows Dunbar and Giaume loading up a pallet of boxes wrapped in plastic and leaving the event in a Nissan Murano filled with cardboard boxes. Additionally, there was an attempted break-in at a booth shared by Asmodee and Atomic Mass Games, with Dunbar being photographed before the men fled.
Following the events at GenCon, police in Indiana and New York worked together to track down Dunbar and Giaume. A New York attorney played a crucial role in solving the case, informing the police that their client had been coerced into purchasing the stolen goods for $4,000.
The stolen items, which include Magic: The Gathering cards and Dungeons & Dragons books, are estimated to be worth around $300,000. All the products are currently in police custody as evidence.
