CS2 Servers to Run at 128 Tick Rate, Valve’s Matchmaking Stays at 64

superadmin

The CS community remains divided over the tick rate in CS2, with FACEIT’s servers running at 128 ticks while Valve’s official matchmaking sticks to 64. Despite Valve’s sub-tick update system, which was supposed to bridge the gap, it seems that the community will remain fragmented.

Former pro player kennyS expressed his opinion on FACEIT’s server performance, noting that he experienced improved accuracy and the ability to execute flick shots and sprays. However, he acknowledged that this could be a placebo effect, but still viewed it as a positive change.

Another former pro player, TaZ, also shared his experience on FACEIT’s 128 tick servers, stating that it felt noticeably different and required a different playstyle compared to Valve’s matchmaking. He plans to conduct further testing to explore the differences. These positive reviews from professionals raise questions about the future relevance of Valve’s Premier mode in matchmaking.

One issue that has been reported is the unreliability of the AK-47 on official servers. Changing the “cl_updaterate” to 128 seems to fix this problem, further supporting the argument for CS2 servers to switch to a 128 tick rate.

The CS:GO playerbase is already accustomed to using third-party matchmaking systems like FACEIT and ESEA at higher levels of play. If Valve’s official servers continue to lag behind in terms of performance, their efforts to reunite the community may be in jeopardy. While sub-tick updates were intended to bridge the gap between official and high-level play, it appears that Valve still has a long way to go.

FACEIT and ESEA have been the preferred choices for many pros and aspiring professionals, with high FACEIT ranks serving as a marker of skill. Valve’s official matchmaking in CS:GO lacked such options, but CS2 may succeed in attracting these players back. The full release of CS2 and future updates will determine whether Valve can overcome the issues plaguing their vanilla matchmaking.
