CS2 Beta Test: How to Reduce Input Lag

Vertical Sync: The Biggest Culprit

One of the major issues faced by CS2 players during the beta test is input lag. A Reddit post from Sept. 10 reveals that enabling Vertical Sync is the main cause of this problem. It significantly increases input lag compared to other settings.

Optimizing Your Settings

To minimize input lag, it is recommended to set each setting to its minimum. However, if you don’t want to compromise on the visual appeal of CS2’s Source Two update, there are certain settings you can adjust without sacrificing too much.

The Impact of Different Settings

Enabling Vertical Sync results in the highest input lag, with a delay of around 15ms. Multisampling Anti-Aliasing Mode set to “8X MSAA” comes in second, causing approximately 0.89ms of input lag. High settings for Ambient Occlusion contribute to a delay of 0.33ms.

Minimal Impact Settings

Settings such as Models/Textures, Shaders, Particles, Dynamic Range, and FidelityX Super Resolution have minimal impact on input lag, ranging from 0.10 to 0.15ms.

Striving for Polished Graphics and Minimal Input Lag

To maintain a polished appearance while minimizing input lag, consider lowering some of the aforementioned settings. With some adjustments, you can achieve a barely noticeable input lag. However, it’s important to note that certain aspects of CS2’s gameplay may still feel different, including spray control and bullet accuracy on Valve’s new sub-tick servers.

Anticipating Changes

Valve is known for its consistent updates, so it’s likely that adjustments will be made to improve the overall feel of CS2. Hopefully, these changes will be implemented sooner rather than later.
