Yu Nonn’s Naya Tokens Deck Dominates Standard Tournament

superadmin

A new Magic: The Gathering deck has emerged as the champion in the largest Standard tournament since the release of the Wilds of Eldraine set. Yu Nonn’s Naya Tokens deck proved to be unstoppable, going undefeated and claiming victory in the event.

The tournament, organized by Japanese VTuber Chika Aobeni, featured 128 players and showcased a diverse range of decks. While some expected top-performing decks like Esper Legends and Golgari Midrange made it to the top eight, there were also a few surprises.

Nonn’s Naya Tokens deck stood out among the competition with its unique strategy. Contrary to its name, the deck doesn’t rely solely on generating tokens. Instead, it utilizes cards like Virtue of Loyalty and Pia Nalaar to enhance the power of tokens and create strong synergies.

Pia Nalaar, a card from the March of the Machine Aftermath set, gained value in the Standard format due to the return of the Adventure mechanic introduced in Wilds of Eldraine. By playing lands or casting spells from exile, Pia Nalaar generates tokens, which synergize with other cards in the deck. Reckless Impulse and Wrenn’s Resolve further enhance this synergy.

The deck also incorporates new Wilds of Eldraine cards like Questing Druid and Virtue of Loyalty//Ardenvale Fealty. Questing Druid scales in power and toughness based on the number of colors played, while Virtue of Loyalty creates tokens and boosts the team for lethal damage.

In addition to Naya Tokens, two other surprising decks made it to the top eight. Ryuumei’s Dimir Tempo deck utilizes Faeries, including Sleep-Cursed Faerie and Talion, the Kindly Lord, to create a powerful tempo strategy. Masayasu Tanahashi’s Orzhov Aggro deck features new cards like Gumdrop//Tempt with Treats, Virtue of Loyalty//Ardenvale Fealty, and Lord Skitter, Sewer King to dominate the Standard meta.

Players can try out these new Standard decks on MTG Arena or Magic Online, while tabletop players can participate in Standard events at their local game stores.
