The Green Knight Rises in Wilds of Eldraine

superadmin

The legendary Green Knight has made its mark in the new Magic: The Gathering set, Wilds of Eldraine (WOE), despite not being included in the initial Eldraine set. This powerful character is already impacting the Standard meta with its presence in various decks.

One notable deck that went undefeated at a recent Japanese tournament featured a Naya build, consisting of over 100 players. Additionally, the MTG Golgari Midrange deck has been dominating the meta since the digital release of WOE and at the Japanese tournament. This deck includes the Mosswood Dreadknight, a human knight inspired by the Arthurian legend of the Green Knight.

Interestingly, the Green Knight was originally intended to be part of the Throne of Eldraine set but was ultimately left out due to a lack of recognition among players. However, some fans did notice the absence of this iconic character, prompting game designer Mark Rosewater to rectify the mistake and ensure the Green Knight’s inclusion in the WOE set.

Rosewater acknowledged the popularity of the Green Knight among fans of Arthurian legend and emphasized the importance of including deep cuts from source material to cater to dedicated enthusiasts. While the average person may not be familiar with the Green Knight, it holds significant meaning for those passionate about Arthurian lore.

Mosswood Dreadknight, the representation of the Green Knight in WOE, is not an overpowered card but has a notable impact on the Standard meta. It serves as a reliable two-drop for Golgari decks, allowing players to cast its Adventure spell even after the creature is put into the graveyard.

The Adventure spell, Dread Whispers, provides card draw without requiring the sacrifice of a creature or removal card slot. This synergy with other WOE cards, such as Sentinel of Lost Lore in Mono-Green decks, further enhances the effectiveness of Mosswood Dreadknight.

Players can experience the power of the Green Knight, embodied in Mosswood Dreadknight, through tabletop events at local game stores or digitally via MTG Arena and Magic Online. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this exciting addition to the Eldraine universe.
