Apple’s latest keynote unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, bringing significant performance upgrades to the tech giant’s smartphone lineup. Alongside these improvements, a range of AAA games will be available for these devices, revolutionizing mobile gaming. However, not all iPhone users will be able to enjoy these games, as only those who purchase the new models will have access.
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, the native version of the Resident Evil 4 2023 remake, and Death Stranding are among the exciting AAA games set to arrive on Apple’s mobile devices in the coming months. Unfortunately, older iPhone models won’t be compatible with these games, even with an iOS update. The reason behind this limitation is that the games were specifically developed to harness the power of Apple’s new A17 chip and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which older models cannot support.
While this may disappoint consumers who are not ready to upgrade, it marks a significant advancement in mobile gaming. Competitors like the Nintendo Switch have been dominating the handheld console market, and Apple’s move aims to reclaim its share.
The gameplay demo showcased flawless performance on the iPhone’s new 6.1-inch 120hz screen. However, concerns about battery life arise. According to Apple’s specifications, the iPhone 15 Pro’s battery is identical to its predecessor, the 14 Pro. Considering battery degradation under high load, gamers indulging in multiple sessions of Assassin’s Creed might experience faster depletion of their maximum charge capacity compared to regular phone usage.
Only time will tell if the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can withstand months of heavy gaming under high load. Nevertheless, the advancement of handheld technology is undeniably intriguing. The iPhone 15 line will be available for purchase on September 22, while the AAA titles are expected to arrive on the App Store in the coming months.
Apple has announced that Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, and Death Stranding will be available by the end of 2023. As for Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, it will launch on PC and consoles in October, but iPhone users will have to wait until next year to enjoy the game.
