Fans of the popular roguelike game, Hades, can rejoice as its highly anticipated sequel, Hades II, is set to launch in early access in the second quarter of 2024. Players can expect to get their hands on the game between April and June 2024 on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Supergiant Games, the developers behind Hades, have been steadily progressing since the game’s reveal at The Game Awards. Following the successful early access model of the original game, Hades II will undergo a similar development process, with continuous updates and additions until its full release.
The original Hades was released in early access in December 2018 and received regular updates until its official 1.0 version came out in September 2020. Unlike other unfinished games released in early access, Hades was well-designed from the start, offering an engaging gameplay experience. Bug fixes and additional content were introduced over time, enhancing the core hack-and-slash mechanics and expanding the game’s world.
Hades II will retain the beloved gameplay elements of its predecessor, featuring procedurally generated rooms reminiscent of games like The Binding of Isaac and Slay the Spire. The game’s story, deeply rooted in Greek mythology, unfolds as players progress through runs, uncovering Zagreus’ backstory and goals.
In Hades II, players will assume the role of Princess Melinoë, a new royal member of the Underworld, on a mission to defeat the titan of time, Chronos. The choice of a time-focused antagonist adds an intriguing twist to the sequel’s narrative.
While the release timeframe is not set in stone, the developers acknowledge that unexpected challenges may arise during development. However, their experience with the early access model ensures that fans will have access to Hades II earlier than anticipated, allowing them to witness the game’s evolution over time, just like its predecessor.
