Players Divided on Usefulness of Baldur’s Gate 3 Companion Minsc

superadmin

Some players of Baldur’s Gate 3 are surprised by the appearance of a certain companion in the game and believe he serves no purpose. However, others argue that he is simply a fun easter egg, as he was also a companion in the previous Baldur’s Gate games.

The companion in question is Minsc, a character that some players find confusing to recruit due to his late arrival in the game and limited exploration opportunities. But, it should be noted that Minsc is actually a nostalgic reference to the earlier Baldur’s Gate titles.

In both previous games, players had the option to recruit Minsc early on and continue the story with him. As a Human Ranger, he was often a valuable asset in various parties.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, Minsc appears later in the story. To recruit him, you need to have Jaheira in your party and complete her companion quest called “The High Harper.” During this quest, you will encounter Minsc and initially have to fight him. Be sure to use non-lethal damage to avoid killing him.

Once recruited, Minsc (and his hamster Boo) starts at level 12, which is likely similar to the level of your other party members. He can become a powerful asset in the endgame, especially if you lack ranged characters. Additionally, you can consider multiclassing him as a Cleric or Fighter to keep him away from the frontlines.
