A fan recently pointed out that the smuggling feature in Starfield, a highly anticipated RPG game, is rather pointless. While smuggling illegal contraband items can get you in trouble with authorities, the game’s economy does not favor this risky endeavor. Selling contraband to select vendors yields the same amount of money as selling them openly.
The original poster suggested that the game should introduce fences in major cities who would buy contraband at significantly higher prices, making smuggling a more lucrative option. Additionally, the price of Aurora, the most sought-after contraband in the game, should vary depending on the system it was manufactured in, making smuggling it to other systems more sensible and profitable.
Starfield fans quickly joined the discussion, offering suggestions to fix this issue. One popular idea was to introduce a Smuggler’s Guild, a faction solely focused on contraband. Players could undertake requests using the ship stealth mechanic, which is currently underutilized after an early mission. This would provide an opportunity to improve the smuggling experience and make it more engaging.
Implementing these ideas, along with tweaking the game’s economy, would greatly enhance the smuggling feature in Starfield. All the necessary mechanics are already present in the game; Bethesda simply needs to put them to use.
