Early access to Mortal Kombat 1 has been granted to Premium and Kollector’s Edition owners, but Nintendo Switch users are not having a good experience. Many players have reported major technical problems that make the game almost unplayable on the Switch. These issues include character fabric and hair getting stuck and stretching across the screen, graphics deterioration and lag, delays when pausing the game, lag in navigating menus, and an impossible tutorial due to lag. Players feel that the game was rushed onto the Switch and needed more time for polishing.
A thread on the Nintendo Switch subreddit compiled various responses from players who have encountered these issues. Some users believe that the game should have been delayed until it was in a usable state, considering the success of Mortal Kombat 11 on the Switch. Others mentioned the significant difference in graphics quality compared to MK11 and the presence of visual glitches. Videos showcasing these problems have been shared online, and players are encouraged to report their experiences to WB Games in hopes of getting the issues addressed through updates and patches.
Many responses in the thread also highlighted the high price point of the game on the Switch, around $70 USD, and expressed disappointment that a new game would be released in such a poor state. Some fans criticized NetherRealm Studios for not showing gameplay footage of the Switch version prior to release, suggesting that this could have indicated the problems it would face. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game have not been affected by these issues.
Despite the current problems, there is hope that a day one update will address some of the technical issues before the full release of Mortal Kombat 1.
