Players of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet who completed The Teal Mask DLC were left with a major cliffhanger involving the character Kieran. This has inspired one talented player to create fanart envisioning what Kieran might become in the upcoming sequel, The Indigo Disk.
Kieran has been a polarizing character among players, with his story in The Teal Mask exploring his shy beginnings and his eventual descent into darkness in Kitakami. Regardless of personal opinions, it will be intriguing to see how the writers develop his character further in The Indigo Disk, set to release in winter.
In the meantime, the Pokémon community has taken matters into their own hands. A skilled player, u/Umagon_, shared impressive fanart on Reddit on September 22nd, depicting Kieran in a more sinister light. With his hair tied back, a toxic chain around his neck, and an ominous face resembling Glimmora in the background, the artwork has sparked intense discussions about Kieran’s fate.
One significant detail in the fanart is the chain necklace worn by Kieran. This chain is the same type that the Loyal Three—Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti—all possess. Given Kieran’s story and the chain’s capabilities, it makes perfect sense for him to acquire his own Toxic Chain.
Munkidori’s Scarlet Pokédex entry explicitly states, “The chain is made from toxins that enhance capabilities.” For Munkidori, it enhances psychic powers. For Okidogi, it boosts physical strength. And for Fezandipiti, it enhances beauty and voice.
Applying this concept to Kieran, who yearns to become stronger by the end of The Teal Mask, obtaining his own Toxic Chain could enhance his performance in Pokémon battles. This would allow him to finally defeat the player’s character after numerous failed attempts. Additionally, Kieran’s anger and desire for strength may be connected to the sudden “revival” of the Loyal Three at their monument.
Another intriguing aspect is the presence of a Glimmora look-alike in the background. Glimmora, a mysterious Rock/Poison Pokémon, has been linked to Terastallization and has made appearances in Area Zero and the Crystal Pool. Speculation suggests that Glimmora may play a role in the second part of the DLC, potentially involving Kieran as well.
We will have to wait until The Indigo Disk to discover Kieran’s fate. However, this fanart provides an exciting glimpse into what his villainous arc might entail.
