League of Legends Players Demand Skin Preview Feature from Riot Games

Derek Morgan

League of Legends players are once again expressing their frustration with Riot Games over the absence of a simple skin preview system. This feature would allow players to see what they are purchasing before spending their hard-earned Riot Points.

The issue was brought up in a Reddit thread on September 23, where users discussed the lack of a skin preview feature in the game’s shop. Many players were surprised that such a basic quality-of-life addition has not been implemented yet. They believe that being able to preview a skin before buying it should be a fundamental feature.

Some users speculated on the reasons behind Riot’s decision to not include this feature. One theory suggests that skins may not look as appealing up close, and previews could potentially reduce sales. Another theory is that Riot intentionally teases players with elements like splash art and backstory, hoping to entice them into making impulse purchases.

Critics argue that Riot does not allocate enough resources to League of Legends. They point out that it takes the company a long time to release visual updates for champions and other game elements, while other triple-A developers can create entire games and systems in less time.

Players praised League’s mobile counterpart, Wild Rift, for already having a skin preview feature. They also mentioned that rival MOBAs, such as Dota 2 and Heroes of the Storm, have had this feature for a long time. Valve and Blizzard ensured that players could preview skins before purchasing them, so why hasn’t Riot done the same?

This is not the first time that League of Legends fans have expressed frustration with the game’s outdated client. The client’s performance has been criticized, and Riot’s Client Cleanup Project, launched in 2019, has not provided significant updates or fixes.

Riot’s silence on these issues only adds fuel to the discussions. League of Legends still runs on a 2009 engine, and despite some visual updates, the underlying problems persist. It remains to be seen how high on Riot’s priority list a skin preview feature sits.
