Players Demand Changes to Overwatch 2’s Support Role

Tim Price

Overwatch 2 players are once again expressing frustration with the amount of healing support heroes can provide in matches. They believe that supports have too much sustain, making DPS players feel irrelevant. One proposed solution is to revert back to six-vs-six gameplay by adding another tank to lobbies. This would distribute heals more evenly and create a better balance. However, some players suggest learning how to flank supports to target the backline as an alternative strategy. Despite these discussions, it is unlikely that Blizzard will make any changes to the game.

On September 25, an Overwatch 2 player voiced their frustration with the overwhelming healing power of support heroes. They demanded that Blizzard take action to reduce the impact of healing in the game. Many players agreed, feeling that DPS heroes have become less relevant compared to tanks and healers.

The proposed solution that gained traction among players was to reintroduce six-vs-six gameplay by adding another tank to each team. This would force supports to prioritize between two tanks, resulting in a more balanced distribution of heals. While some worried about potential drawbacks, such as supports being overwhelmed or lacking mobility, most players supported this idea and urged Blizzard to consider it.

However, not all players were in favor of such a drastic change. Some suggested that players should focus on learning how to flank supports, particularly healers, in order to disrupt their ability to heal the tank. By targeting the backline, players could eliminate or distract enemy supports, reducing their impact on the game.

Despite the ongoing discussions and suggestions, players acknowledged that it is unlikely Blizzard will make any changes to Overwatch 2. The desire for a return to six-vs-six gameplay remains strong among many players, but the future of the game’s support role and overall balance remains uncertain.
