BetBoom Team Repeats Mistake of Watching Dota 2 Stream During Match, Faces Possible Penalties

Tim Price

BetBoom Team has once again found themselves in hot water after a player was caught watching a Dota 2 stream during a match. This comes just months after a similar incident during the Bali Major, where the team received a penalty.

During their match against Shopify Rebellion on September 24, player Danil “Gpk” Skutin was seen switching tabs between Dota 2 and Twitch, clearly violating the rules. The team had already faced criticism and punishment for the same offense in July, leaving Dota 2 fans puzzled by their repeated mistake.

Despite their actions, BetBoom Team still lost the series against Shopify Rebellion, finishing in third place in the tournament. It remains uncertain whether ESL will impose further penalties on the team, but potential consequences could include drafting penalties, a default loss in a future stage of the tournament, or even exclusion from the next ESL event.

While some may argue that watching a broadcast stream during the drafting stage does not provide a significant advantage, it is important to uphold the rules set by Dota 2 tournaments. Players are expected to remain in the Dota 2 client once their match begins, including during the drafting stage.

This incident is reminiscent of Tundra Esports’ Neta “33” Shapira, who also received a drafting penalty during the Bali Major for opening Spotify. The context of the actions does not excuse the violation of the rules.
