Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are set to launch new physical copies of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in November. These bundles will include The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, providing players with the base game and DLC in one package. The release date for the DLC’s second part, The Indigo Disk, is yet to be confirmed.
The international release of these Gen IX physical copies is scheduled for November 3. This gives players who haven’t purchased Scarlet or Violet the opportunity to acquire both the base game and DLC without having to go through the Nintendo Switch eShop.
It has been speculated by fans that the release of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet + DLC Bundle Packs could coincide with the launch of The Indigo Disk, following the release of The Teal Mask on September 13. However, the wording on the new box suggests otherwise.
According to the box, as highlighted by Serebii webmaster Joe Merrick, the bundle includes the base game and DLC, but an “additional download” is required. This indicates that the DLC is not included in the cartridge itself, but rather a key is provided to grant access to it, requiring a download once the cartridge is inserted.
It is important to note that this bundle does not indicate the timing of The Indigo Disk release. The official website states that players will need to download an update to play Part 2: The Indigo Disk after its winter 2023 launch.
While there is no confirmed release date for the second SV DLC, it is expected to be announced soon. Footage of the DLC has already been shown, and it will directly tie into the story of The Teal Mask, suggesting that its release should not be too far off.
The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet + DLC Bundle Packs have faced criticism from fans for various reasons, including ongoing performance issues with Scarlet and Violet. There is also confusion as to why this product is being released before The Indigo Disk, considering that the Sword and Shield + Expansion Pass release in November 2020 included both Gen VIII DLCs on the physical cartridge without the need for an additional download.
Until an official announcement is made, any release date speculation should be taken with caution. However, purchasers of the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet + DLC Bundle Pack will receive a Mystery Gift code for 100 Poké Balls, adding some extra value to the purchase.
